Devonport Services v Dawlish Ladies – 5th November 2022

4-4

It was an early and soggy start for Dawlish for an early pushback in Plymouth. The first half was evenly matched; Devonport got an initial lead but Dawlish were able to match this drawing even ahead of half time. The goal came from Miriam, who in her second league match placed herself perfectly to sneak the ball past the keeper. The conditions made it harder than normal for players, but everyone played well individually and as a team despite the weather. Dawlish were pleased but had also earned a level score line at half time.

The second half seemed to tell a different story initially. Devonport came out strong and as the half progressed secured 3 goals giving them a 4-1 lead. With a few subs and a host of supporters on the side-lines Dawlish didn’t allow themselves to be too demoralised and despite the torrential conditions kept their heads up high. Hard work from everyone bought us back in to contention with Sophie securing two goals in the last quarter. Devonport continued to apply the pressure, but our defence worked hard to prevent them from capitalising further. With about five minutes on the clock Mel (yes I know, no one saw that coming…!) secured the final goal, sealing a draw.

Devonport had one final chance, being awarded a short corner as the final whistle played; Dawlish’s defence took this in their stride and quickly cleared the ball confirming Dawlish’s ‘comeback from the dead’. Another awesome performance from the team, surely it won’t be too much longer before our first win of the season if we keep up with performances like this?!
